‘The Beat’ Walk-In Centre to reopen in the heart of Liverpool

Liverpool’s city centre Walk-In Centre is due to re-open on 29 November to strengthen the access to same-day medical advice and treatment to the city’s residents and visitors in the build-up to Christmas.

The Walk-In Centre, known as The Beat and based on David Lewis Street, closed in March 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but has been reopened again by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides community health services for Liverpool.

Its reopening increases the number of Walk-In Centres to four across Liverpool and signals the end of the telephone triage system introduced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

People can now walk in without phoning first although appointments are still available through NHS 111, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for anyone who needs advice or treatment quickly and isn’t sure what to do.

The Walk-In Centres provide consultations, advice and treatment for minor injuries and illnesses and are open 8am to 8pm, seven days a week at the following sites:

  • City Walk-In Centre, The Beat, David Lewis Street, L1 4AP
  • Old Swan Walk-In Centre, Crystal Close, L13 2GA
  • Garston Walk-In Centre, at South Liverpool Treatment Centre, Church Road, L19 2LW
  • Smithdown Children’s Walk-In Centre, Smithdown Road, L15 2LQ (under 16 years of age)

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and keep our staff, patients and visitors safe, there will still be a requirement in our buildings to wear a mask and maintain a safe distance. If patients have any COVID-19 symptoms, the advice is still to self-isolate, and contact NHS 111. Information on testing is available here: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

In addition to the Liverpool Walk-in Centres, Mersey Care provides walk-in centres across Knowsley and South Sefton. For further information including access and opening hours, please visit: www.merseycare.nhs.uk/walkincentres
